Gmail Setup with Truckerdox

Gmail is compatible with Truckerdox, but may require extra steps to allow the app to communicate with your mailbox.  In addition to the standard email setup instructions, the following steps may be necessary:

Enable POP Access

By default, Gmail leaves POP access disabled until you specifically request it.  Follow these steps to correct the issue:

  1. Sign in to Gmail.

  2. Click the gear icon in the top right of the screen.

  3. Select Settings.

  4. Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP.

  5. Select Enable POP for all mail or Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on.

  6. Choose what to do with your messages after your POP client or device receives them.

  7. Click Save Changes.

Although the radio button next to your selected option may not stay selected, Gmail displays the status next to 'POP Status:.' When you enable POP, your settings display 'POP Status: POP is enabled.'  If your POP settings are turned off, the status will indicate that POP is disabled.

Authorize App Access

Gmail often rejects logins from new devices or apps that attempt to access your account.  Follow these steps to correct the issue:

  1. Sign in to your account from the web version of Gmail at https://mail.google.com.  Afterwards try completing your email setup in Truckerdox again.

  2. If you're still having problems, visit http://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha and sign in with your Gmail username and password.  If necessary, enter the letters in the distorted picture.

  3. Visit https://www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecureapps and set Access for less secure apps to Turn on.  Note:  this option is not available for users who have 2-Step Verification enabled.  If you are using 2-Step Verification, please read the instructions under "Create Secure App Password" below.

  4. Try changing your password according to Google's tips on creating a strong password.

Verify App Activity

Google may flag your email login attempt through Truckerdox as "suspicious activity."  If you receive a notification from Google that the login activity was blocked, you can follow these steps to verify that you were the person who attempted to log in:

  1. Visit Google's account activity page at https://security.google.com/settings/security/activity

  2. Look for any blocked login attempts.

  3. Click the appropriate button on each login attempt to indicate that you attempted the login.

Note:  You should approve the request even if the physical location of the login attempt is different than your actual location.  The login attempt originates from our servers, so a different location is expected.

Create Secure App Password

The following instructions only apply to users with 2-Step Verification enabled.  After a user has enabled 2-Step Verification, Google expects users to generate a unique "App password" for each application that logs in.

  1. Visit Google's security settings page at https://myaccount.google.com/security?#signin

  2. Click the the App passwords button.

  3. Scroll down to the bottom until you see the Generate button.

  4. Click the Select app drop-down and click Other (Custom name).

  5. Input a name for the app.  For example: "Truckerdox on my iPhone".

  6. Click the Generate button.  A pop-up window will display your new app password.

  7. Write down the 16-character app password.

  8. Open the Truckerdox app on your mobile device and log in.

  9. Click the Settings (gear) icon in the app.

  10. Click the Inbox Setting button.

  11. Input your new app password in the Password field.

  12. Tap Save to save your changes.  The app should indicate successful login.
